FAQs

Additional Information

What do I need to bring to my coaching session?

Bring your swimming attire, wetsuit ( if you have one), brightly coloured swim hat, a towel, some warm clothes for after swimming, water and a warm drink. But most importantly a smile.

If you don’t have a wetsuit you will need a tow float. I have spares which I sterilise after use which you can use for your first swim, after which I would highly recommend buying your own.

What happens if the weather is bad?

I check weather hourly and if I feel that it will be too dangerous to swim, I shall suggest an alternative location. If this is not possible I will cancel the session. I will aim to reschedule the session within the next 7 days, but if this is not possible I will refund your money or give you a credit to your account (whichever you prefer) and you can re-book when it is suitable for you.

What happens at an Intro session?

We will spend the first part of the session on dry land, talking about safety aspects such as clothing, wetsuits, weather, safe entry and exits into water, amongst other things and then we will enter the water together. Once in the water we will acclimatise, do some static breathing and then start swimming when you are comfortable in the water. I will never take you out of your depth.

What if I need to rest?

You will be able to put your feet down in the shallows, but if at anytime during a coaching session you cannot put your foot on the floor of the sea/lake, then you can float on your back in a wetsuit or use the tow float to rest on.

I use equipment in the pool, should I bring this with me?

If we are doing a coaching session that requires a snorkel/paddles/fins/pull buoy or kick board I will let you know in advance.

What temperature will you not swim in?

I coach all year so temperatures can be as low a 1c in the water in Dec/Jan. It can be fun but I will not book hour long sessions once the water gets too cold so over winter months I restrict coaching sessions to 30 minutes.

Im training for a swim that requires a verified swim, can you oversee this for me?

Yes, as long as you have the paperwork, I will be happy to verify your swim. Please contact me for prices and preferred venue. This can be for your 2 hour or 6 hour Channel qualifiers or any other swims. Groups welcome for relay swim verifications.

Do you offer private sessions?

Yes, when booking a 1:1 session it is just you and me. There maybe other swimmers in the lake or sea but we will be working together.
